The Emotional Freedom Techniques or EFT, is a psychological acupressure technique that is routinely used in this practice and most highly recommended to optimize emotional health. Although it is still often overlooked, emotional health is absolutely essential to your physical health and healing- no matter how devoted you are to proper diet and lifestyle, you will not achieve your body's ideal healing and preventative powers if emotional barriers stand in the way.
EFT is a form of psychological acupressure, based on the same energy meridians used in traditional acupuncture to treat physical and emotional ailments for over thousands of years, but without the invasiveness of needles. Instead, simple tapping with the fingertips is used to input kinetic energy onto specific meridians on the head and chest while you think about your specific problems- whether it is a traumatic event, an addiction, pain, etc.-and voice positive affirmations.
This combination of tapping the energy meridians and voicing positive affirmations works to clear the "short circuit"- the emotional block- from the body's bio-energy system, thus restoring your mind and body's balance, which is essential for optimal health and the healing of physical disease.
EFT will help you to:
- Implement Positive Goals
- Reduce or Eliminate Pain
- Reduce Food Cravings
- Remove Negative Emotions
The coming paragraphs describe the theory as propagated by Gary Craig.
Most emotional issues, despite the global nature of their statements, are based on some very specific events rooted in the past. These events triggered off strong responses, resulting in the long standing energy disruption. The global emotion can be linked to a table top with each specific events as a table leg.
EFT is applied turn by turn to each of the table legs. As each table leg breaks, the table top becomes more and more unstable and may soon collapse.
What if an emotional issue has hundreds of table legs? Gary Craig says that in his experience, it is sufficient to chop off a few of them to collapse the whole table. Two possible reasons are:
- The underlying similarities behind the specific events may lead to the resolution of all of them as one of them is being resolved. Thus, the specific events borrow benefits from each other.
- If the events picked up are key events, then the resolution of these may help the mind and the body see the other events in the proper perspective. That is, these events are the strongest and most foundational table legs.
As Gary neatly summarized in a recent article on his web site, all scientists agree that the body is an "energy configuration" made up of positive and negative electrical charges in the form of atoms, the basic " building blocks of all matter." Einstein informed modern scientists that all matter lies somewhere on the same energy continuum which states E=MC2. If we view the human body as an energy configuration rather that separate organs, parts or equations of chemicals, we will understand why and how EFT works. Based on impressive new discoveries involving the bodies subtle energies, EFT has been proven clinically effective (over 80%) for Trauma, Abuse, Stress, Anxiety, Fears, Phobias, Depression, Grief, Addictive Cravings, Children Issues and hundreds of physical symptoms including headaches, body pain and breathing difficulties. It is a missing piece to the healing puzzle. It often works where nothing else will. Usually rapid, long lasting and gentle. No drugs or equipment involved.
